Taittiriya Upanishad (excerpt) for choir

The work’s text is from the Taittiriya Upanishad which is a celebration and virtually incomprehensible discourse on the nature of Joy. The idea? Joy as you may perceive it, is too SMALL. Keep thinking bigger. NOW – thing Bigger. Loads of fun. Lovely Performance under the baton of the amazing Jared Anderson with the Michigan Technological University Choir in the Quincy Mineshaft in Hancock, Michigan HERE

THE TEXT for the piece is here. Good Luck:

What is the joy of realizing the Self?

Take a young man, healthy, strong, good and cultured.

Let us take this as the measure of joy.  One measure of joy.

(Ghandharvas)-

One hundred times that joy is the measure of the joy of the Gandharvas.

But no less joy than one illumined. Free from Self Will.

(Pitris)

One hundred times that joy is the measure of the joy of the Pitris.

But no less joy than one illumined. Free from Self Will.

(Devis and Devas)

One hundred times that joy is the measure of the joy of the Devis.

But no less joy than one illumined. Free from Self Will.

(Karmavedas)

One hundred times that joy is the measure of the joy of the Karmadevas.

But no less joy than one illumined. Free from Self Will.

(Indra)

One hundred times that joy is the measure of the joy of Indra.

But no less joy than one illumined. Free from Self Will.

(Brihaspati)

One hundred times that joy is the measure of the joy of Brihaspati.

But no less joy than one illumined. Free from Self Will.

(Viratis)

One hundred times that joy is the measure of the joy of Viratis.

But no less joy than one illumined. Free from Self Will.

(Prajapatis)

One hundred times that joy is the measure of the joy of Prajapatis.

But no less joy than one illumined. Free from Self Will.

The self in man and in the Sun are One.

Those who understand this see through the world and

Go beyond the various sheaths of being to realize the unity of life.
